The San Francisco Legion of Honor is a neoclassical masterpiece, modeled after the Palais de la LĂ©gion d’Honneur in Paris. Built in 1924, it was a gift from Alma de Bretteville Spreckels to the city of San Francisco. The building is a tribute to French art and culture, housing an impressive collection of European art, including Rodin sculptures. Its architectural style, characterized by tall columns, symmetrical design, and ornate details, evokes a sense of grandeur and timeless elegance.

Wedding Day Blueprint

Getting Ready & Quiet Moments in the Gunn Theater Backstage Rooms
You slip into bridal mode in the historic green-rooms of the Gunn Theatre, while your squad settles in with bubbly. I watch you rehearse your smile and mentally check off the “smooth transitions” box.

Ceremony on the Balustrade Lawn or in the Rodin Galleries
For sweeping views of the Golden Gate and Marin Headlands, we head out to the open-air Balustrade Lawn (with the majestic backdrop you’ve been dreaming of). Or, if the weather or mood demands it, the Rodin Galleries offer an intimate, art-laden ceremony space.

Cocktail Hour on the Terrace Level
Guests sip cocktails on the Terrace Level, mingling among classical stonework and museum ambiance. Minimal dĂ©cor required—because the architecture does most of the heavy lifting.

Dinner & Dancing in the Court of Honor or Rodin Galleries
We transition to the Court of Honor for a grand reception (columns, iconic sculptures like “The Thinker”, ample capacity) or nest into the Rodin Galleries for something cozier, depending on your guest count. Dinner, toasts, laughter, then the dance floor opens—no awkward gaps, thanks to this building block schedule.

Sunset Photo Walk & Final Moments
You grab a few golden-hour portraits outside the museum while your guests keep dancing. Because we promised “effortlessly you”—and that includes memorable visuals.

This blueprint is flexible—shuffle the hours, add in a sparkler exit, or surprise your guests with an art stroll (the museum’s visuals will cover you). At Legion of Honor, we believe your wedding should feel authentically you, and we’ll smooth the edges so you shine.
